Helping the lost find their way again

I help people navigate major life losses such as breakups, identity shifts, or grief, with an individualized, person centered approach, so they can move from feeling stuck and heartbroken to grounded and clear about their next chapter.

This might be the right space for you if…

You feel lost, empty, or lonely following the death of a loved one, a hard diagnosis, a job loss, or a break up.

You feel stuck, out of control, or are looking for clarity regarding an important relationship.

You stay awake at night worrying, experience daily life disruptions due to anxiety, or simply can’t ‘turn off’ the anxious thoughts.

Even ‘normal’ life is hard.

As a licensed counselor focused on walking alongside people going through major life changes, my biggest clinical passion is supporting individuals dealing with loss, whether that be losing a person, a relationship, or a sense of identity. Maybe you feel like you are having multiple crises on multiple fronts, or maybe a loss has felt like a constant punch to the gut. Using a personalized and person centered approach, I can help you find clarity, respond to loneliness, or get ‘unstuck.’

In my work with clients, I value an individualized approach, recognizing you as the expert in your own life. I aim to constantly grow my own skills, as well as rely on cultural humility to remain open to experiences different than my own. In my work, I most often utilize Person Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am trained and utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy as needed with my clients to help when they are particularly stuck with a negative belief or memory.

This extremely universal human experience of loss can be debilitating and make you feel like you have no one. If you are feeling lonely, broken, or out of control, please know that you are not alone and it would be a privilege for me to walk alongside you at this time.

Emily Basirico, LCMHC, MS, NCC

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Catawba College and a Master of Science in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. During my training, I interned at a local Cancer Center, which sparked my interest in working with grief and loss. Following graduation, I obtained my Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate license in North Carolina, as well as my National Certified Counselor credential. I began working at a group practice in my hometown, where I gained invaluable experience through supporting individuals, couples, and families through a variety of mental health concerns. Once I had enough experience, I was able to get my full license in the state of North Carolina, and also hold a Telehealth license to work with those in South Carolina.

For me, counseling has always been about helping people figure out and do what is best for them, considering all their life circumstances. I believe this is an ongoing process and can often change, depending on what those life circumstances are, which is why I chose the Pursuit of Wellness as the name for my practice. If you’re ready, let’s pursue wellness together!
